How do you brand and package an illegal substance?

Today I review a great article discussing a project sponsored by of all people Print magazine contacting 4 different firms regarding a branding of legitimately legal marijuana. The question asked of the firms was: What would a legal pack of marijuana cigarettes look like?

I wouldn’t have any idea where to begin besides maybe using a green color, definitely wouldn’t take the 70’s Grateful Dead type of pseudo post hippy edge view. I would say Heads of State nailed it close. You don’t have to do much with it, it’s one of the most consumed substances in the United States and it’s illegal in most states. Just make it look nice, let people know what it is and make it look appealing. No rastafari colors, no uber chic branding… it’s a joint in a bag with a label to let you know what you’re in for. Great work… even if it is fictional.

Thanks to IF IT’S HIP IT’S HERE for the nuggy head’s up.
